FAQs
- How do automatic license plate readers (ALPR) work?
- Pulsed eye-safe infrared light is reflected off license plates. The reflected image is analyzed and checked against a database. If there is a match, within a few seconds the operator is notified on their laptop / MDT of the "hit".
- What is the difference between PlateFinder and BootFinder?
- PlateFinder is designed for law enforcement applications where officers need to read plates across several lanes of traffic, or at a distance.
BootFinder is designed for parking enforcement, tax collection or other revenue recovery actions where the operator will be relatively close to the target vehicles.
Both products accomplish the same result: checking license plates against databases and identifying lawbreakers or scofflaws.
- Can the systems be used while moving?
- Both systems can be used while either the target vehicle or the patrol vehicle is moving, or both. The system can successfully read plates up to a combined speed of 120 mph.
- What affects the accuracy of the system?
- PlateFinder and BootFinder work well in day or night conditions. The system will work in rain, snow, or fog as well. However, if weather conditions are severe, the system's accuracy rate will be negatively affected.
Accuracy will be affected if plates are obstructed by trailer hitches, bicycle racks, certainlicense plate covers, mud, snow, or are severely bent.
